AIA Austin Award for Specht Architects’ Miron Residence

Featured in the Wall Street Journal. Named a 2020 Record House by Architectural Record magazine.

The Miron Residence has been turning heads in Preston Hollow and beyond, since its completion earlier this year. A modern marvel, this house bears the hallmark of Specht Architects’ “rigorous standards for modern design.”

The WSJ project feature lauded architect Scott Specht’s “new Brutalist” design, focusing on the use of structural elements to control environmental impacts.

And now, AIA Austin has recognized the Miron Residence with a Design Award. Design award jurors judge projects on the following criteria:

  • Innovation, originality and/or vision
  • Conceptual clarity
  • Contextual responsiveness
  • Thoughtful materialization (economy of means, material selection and detailing, craftsmanship)
  • Incorporation and communication of principles of sustainability

The COVID-19 pandemic prevented AIA Austin from presenting the award in person, but necessity led to innovation, in the form of an unboxing video! Click the arrow below to watch Scott Specht and his talented team open their award.
